Six years after its last awarding ceremony, the University of Santo Tomas through the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) and in partnership with the UST Alumni Association, Inc. (USTAAI) recommences the prestigious and most awaited The Outstanding Thomasian Alumni (TOTAL) Awards. The organizing committee which includes OAR Director Asst. Prof. Fredeswindo R. Medina, MACHs and USTAAI President Prof. Evelyn A. Songco, PhD opens the call for nomination which will go on until the end of the year.
TOTAL Awards as the highest honor bestowed to the alumni has a rigorous nomination and selection process. Deans, directors, principals, and regents of the twenty-four (24) faculties, colleges, schools and institutes of the university may nominate Thomasians for the award. Nominees should be endorsed by the dean of the academic unit and the president of the alumni association they belong to. Requirements include forms and an extensive portfolio of the nominee to be judged and scrutinized by the screening committee.
Awards will be given to the alumni who exemplify the Thomasian core values in their respective field of expertise. Each nominee will be evaluated in his competence in pioneering human endeavors, his commitment to profession, and his compassion for others particularly to the marginalized sector in the society. Twelve (12) awards will be given according to field, industry, or specialization. There will only be one awardee per category. The individual can only be nominated in one (1) particular category.Special awards will also be conferred during the awarding such as the Young Thomasian Achiever, Thomasian Family Award, and the Meritorious Achievement Award.
The TOTAL Awards was initiated in 1993 and has continued annually until 2009. The organizing committee made the awarding with a 2-year gap. It was then followed in 2012, 2014, and 2016.
The next TOTAL Awards will be held mid-year next year at the Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom of the Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building.
